Actos® (Pioglitazone), manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, is a thiazolidinedione medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Actos® helps control diabetes by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. The FDA recently approved an updated drug label for the drug, which states that the use of the drug for more than one year may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer.

Studies show a link between bladder cancer and Actos. Lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturer of Actos by persons diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking this drug. The lawsuits allege that the manufacturer of Actos failed to adequately warn patients and physicians of the risk of developing bladder cancer while taking this drug. Actos has also been associated with an increased risk of kidney cancer, heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
