BP Oil Spill Settlement ClaimsClient Letter and Map
Individuals and businesses who suffered financial losses due to the BP Oil Spill including land owners, boat owners, crabbers, oystermen, shrimpers and others throughout the Gulf Coast are now eligible for potential compensation under the new BP oil settlement. Claims began being accepted June 4, 2012. In March 2012, BP tentatively agreed to settle BP oil spill claims with thousands of people along the Gulf Coast for at least $7.8 billion. The proposed agreement would encompass two settlement funds, one for economic losses, and one to resolve medical claims. The settlement presents an opportunity for those who have not filed a claim or have not yet resolved their claims to file now. About the BP Oil Spill Settlement Agreement
After the BP Oil Spill, which began on April 20, 2010, more than 100,000 victims of the BP oil spill, including commercial oystermen, crabbers and shrimpers, filed suit in federal court in New Orleans against BP seeking compensation for the economic losses and medical damages they sustained as a result. In March of 2012 a tentative settlement was finally announced. The settlement provides compensation for private economic losses incurred by certain individuals and businesses as a result of the Gulf oil spill including:
The settlement claim will also compensate people with medical claims related to the spill. Claimants are eligible to participate in either or both settlement funds. The settlements will be paid partially from the $20 billion claims fund that BP set up after the disaster that is being administered by the Gulf Coast Claims Facility by Ken Feinberg. This settlement is unique, as payments in class action settlements typically are not made until after final approval of a settlement. However, BP has agreed not to wait for final approval of the economic loss settlement before claims are paid. Claims can be filed today, and there is no deadline yet for filing.
